Just two days away from surviving my first term as an NQT, and an 8 week one at that!
Having not had the best time in my first PGCE placement (HATED it!), but a pretty good one for my second, I have to say I am LOVING my NQT year. Having my own classroom is key. I’m a neat freak, and hated rummaging around in other people’s mess to find things. Only once have I had to stay up past 10pm planning a lesson (it was a complicated one, and to be fair, I could have gone with the boring one on the file…), and I feel like my head is definitely above the water.
I do have a few gripes with my department, but shall save that for another post, as I’m feeling way too positive to write anything negative!
Today I helped a bottom set girl understand momentum and even manage to do a calculation on her own!
Had my 3rd observed lesson of the term (don’t mind them – quite used to them from the PGCE), which I’m hoping went well. They were my naughty Y8s, and I did have to give quite a few warnings out, and one refused to do any work (!), but hopefully I got mostly “goods” on the form.
So, for anyone struggling with their PGCE, I can say that there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel, keep with it, chin up, as the NQT year ROCKS!! SO much more enjoyable than the PGCE, and I’d possibly say easier!!
