So here I am, working my back side off, trying to care about every pupil I teach, and I am amazed to see SO many teachers who are just doing the bare minimum and seem to be in it for the pension!
It infuriates to see teachers that really aren’t that bothered about what grades the kids get, other than if they get a C at GCSE and boost the school statistics!
It’s not just my school, this is is a very common theme across most (all?) schools!
Last week we had a meeting to sort all the GCSE pupils into three groups; those that will easily get a grade C, those that might get a grade C, and those that stand no chance. We have been told only to focus on the middle group, as getting these kids a grade C boosts the schools place in the Gove league table!
Even working 80% of a time table, there are just not enough hours in the day to give every pupil the attention they deserve and need, so it really annoys me when I see other teachers doing so little. I am dreading going up to 90% next year!
It’s a shame they can’t reduce teaching timetables without reducing pay, then boot out those teachers only in it for the pension, so the remaining teaching staff are the ones who really do want to make a difference to the kid’s lives.
For those who actually want to teach and care, it is a very poorly paid career given the long hours required to do this! I can see both sides of the story, teachers who don’t want to go above the basics as they’re not paid enough…
